Sunday Nov. 7, 2010 10AM
Known for its crystal blue skies, year-round sunshine, stunning landscape, palm tree lined streets and starry nights the City of Palm Springs comes alive during the annual pride celebration. The 24th anniversary of Pride celebrations in Palm Springs will be held over the weekend of November 6 and 7, 2010.
On Sunday, November 7 rainbow flags and glitter will fill the streets as the ever present Mount San Jacinto Mountains star in the most scenic pride parade in the world. The downtown parade steps off at 10am and travels along historic Palm Canyon Drive.
Only a rainbow mile from downtown, the unique two-day pride festival is held at the former spring training home of the California Angels and Chicago White Sox. On pride weekend, thousands take to the field with the baseball diamond serving as the gathering spot for friends and a celebration of diversity and unity. Complete with gay-owned and LGBT friendly companies, the festival includes music, dancing, food vendors, and booths staffed by local organizations.
With over 125 parade contingents, 100 exhibitors, and several entertainment venues, the Palm Springs Pride Celebration and Parade is the largest annual gathering of LGBT people and allies in the Greater Palm Springs area.

Same Sex Kiss Day at Starbucks
Can I have a Double-Mocha fat-free….and a big KISS??
This one-day event coincides with “Tax Day” to highlight the fact that “LGBT couples have yet to be granted the same rights to file our taxes jointly on a Federal level, and we can still be fired for being openly gay in the workplace. That’s why you’re encouraged to be seen on Tax Day, April 15, 2009, spreading your love with a KISS!”
Same Sex Kiss Day calls for couples to go to a neighborhood Starbucks coffee shop and during one (or all, if you wish) of four designated times throughout the day, exchange a kiss with your same sex partner or friend. The set times are at 7:15 am, 12:15 pm, 5:15 pm, and 8:15 pm.
Why Starbucks? Well according to the Same Sex Kiss Day site, “Starbucks has been committed to LGBT rights since the beginning of time offering domestic partnership insurance, quoting gay artists on their coffee cups, and funding our gay pride parades.”
Hallmark HAS NOT created a card for this yet.

National Coming Out Day October 11th
National Coming Out Day is an internationally-observed civil awareness day for coming out and discussion about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) issues. It is observed on October 11 by members of the LGBT communities and their supporters.
The day was founded by Dr. Robert Eichberg and Jean O’Leary in 1988, in celebration of the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights one year earlier, in which 500,000 people marched on Washington, DC, for gay and lesbian equality.
National Coming Out Day events are aimed at raising awareness of the LGBT community among the general populace in an effort to give a familiar face to the LGBT rights movement.
Despite its name, National Coming Out Day (so called because it originated as an event in the United States) is in fact observed in many countries, including Switzerland, Germany Canada and the United Kingdom. As of 2008 The Netherlands also has Coming Out Day on 10-11.

Easter in Palm Springs – It’s Not Your Dad’s Spring Break!
Palm Springs had been known for years as a golf-course-studded retirement mecca that’s invaded annually by hordes of libidinous college kids on spring break. Well, the city of Palm Springs has been quietly changing its image and attracting a whole new crowd. Thank’s to former mayor (the late) Sonny Bono’s revolutionary “anti-thong” ordinance in 1991, halted the spring-break migration by eliminating public display of the bare derrière, and the upscale fairway-condo crowd now congregates in the outlying resort cities of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, and La Quinta.
These days, no billboards are allowed in Palm Springs; all the palm trees in the center of town are backlit at night, and you won’t see the word “motel” on any establishment. Baby boomers and lots of gays and lesbians come to Palm Springs these days. And they are buying home here.
And Spring Break is no longer about throngs of drunk teenagers but thousands of gays and lesbians! The White Party in the Palm Springs Convention Center is one of the biggest and best on the US party circuit. With over 20,000 gay men dressed in white, the event brings together the world’s most talented party people to create an evening of spectacular entertainment. usually around Easter Weekend, but this year April 18-21.
April also is Dinah Shore Golf Week, and The Dinah! The largest 4 day weekend event of its kind for gay women in the World. Pool parties, dance parties, golf and lots of women! The simple but daring concept catapulted the Dinah week to international fame. Today, The Dinah & Dinah Shore Week are considered the largest lesbian events in the world. This year is expected to be bigger and better than ever! With a huge fashion show, top-notch entertainment and a few surprises! This year running April 2 -6.
It’s probably too late to get there this year, but book early next year and plan to attend!
