Alexa Spieler of A-List Music gives Valentine 5 out of 5 stars and writes, “If Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz and Regina Spektor combined forces, you would have Bobby Jo Valentine.  Soulful and uplifting, soothing and calming, Valentine’s music is the perfect blend of indie and modern pop/rock.

saysLA WEEKLY

Palm Springs Gay Pride and Parade to be moved this Fall

palm springs gay pride

Pride in Palm Springs will never be the same.  We’ve worked several years to get to this point and on Wednesday night the Palm Springs City Council unanimously approved moving the Pride Festival to Palm Canyon Dr. in Downtown.

This year’s event logo featuring the palm tree lined Palm Canyon Drive leading directly to Palm Springs Pride couldn’t be more fitting.  We are beyond thrilled with the news.

The road would close at 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, and reopen at 3 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10.

Additional road closures would be held for the Pride Parade, which will be held on Nov. 9.

Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet said the event has a “fabulous, wonderful energy” and that it would inevitably provide a boost to the city’s shops and restaurants.

“The move downtown will have a bigger impact than we realize,” Pougnet said.

Sanker announced this year’s 25th Anniversary plans include a completely redesigned White Party, boasting the most innovative and elaborate video displays ever experienced. Chart-topping remix production team BENT COLLECTIVE (Danny Verde & Steven Redant) will also make their live DJ performance debut.  And media sponsor SiriusXM is on board to broadcast on-site from the Convention Center White Carpet for this historic event.

White Party will also offer lots of new photo opportunities, such as Instagram “selfie moments” and a special photo set up where groups can get instant pics emailed for free.

Additionally, to benefit DESERT AIDS PROJECT and fund raising auction efforts, Sanker has enlisted the talents of internationally recognized conceptual photographer Duke Shoman to create beautiful, striking photographic tableaus.  In keeping with the WPPS 25th “Silver Anniversary” theme, a sleek, sexy and modern chamber of shining, brilliant silver will be the setting that stars and VIP guest will step into – following their arrival on the White Carpet – to commemorate this twenty-five year milestone.

The following afternoon, at the Sunday T-Dance, you can double your pleasure with two giant 100 foot high Ferris wheels, and the day will culminate with the biggest fireworks display in White Party history, choreographed to the music of DJ/Producer Wayne G.

Sanker also revealed the exciting new addition of Uber as the official transportation provider for White Party.  Why drive when you can Uber?  Services will be available all weekend long for White Party attendees.  Uber lounge stations will be set up at White Party locations manned by special Uber concierges.  Uber will also have stretch limos for White Party guests to get around in style.  New users can download the app and enter the code WP25 for a free first ride!  Sign up at: www.uber.com/GO/WP25.   Both new and existing users can also enter the code whiteparty to unlock a flat rate from LA to Palm Springs and back!

Palm Spring’s Celebrity Doodle Party is Back April 5th

palm springs celebrity doodle art auction

It all began with a doodle by Alan Hamel, manager husband of the incomparable Suzanne Somers … and a force-to-be-reckoned-with on his own merits as a long-time actor/entertainer/TV host/producer.

The Palm Springs Power Couple were only too eager to continue doodling while helping to push the idea to their celebrity friends, as a way to benefit Desert AIDS Project … and so the newest fun event in the desert was born.

This year, those joining us for “the ultimate cocktail party” will see doodles by Pam Ann, Susan Anton, Taylor Dayne, Bill Feingold – with another of his now-famous “Doodled Noodles” – Sam Harris, Jack Jones, Leslie Jordan, Ruta Lee, Bob Mackie, Barry Manilow, Kylie Minogue, Rosie O’Donnell, Marie Osmond, Dr. Phil, Del Shores, Lily Tomlin, Vanessa Williams, a Yankee Doodle – and of course, Somers and Hamel.

palm springs celebrity doodle art auctions

Many of these celebrities – and some surprises– will be on-hand, possibly to encourage bidding on their particular doodles. After all, who knows who might be receiving a Doodle Master Award in the future? Somers and Hamel have already set a high bar for talented encouragement.

Presenting this very first Doodle Master Award will be long-time friend to Suzanne Somers who is currently hosting the syndicated daily TV news show America Now, after building her career as an Emmy-winning journalist on programs like Entertainment Tonight and the self-titled Leeza. Also a New York Times best-selling author and social entrepreneur, Leeza’s hands-on advocacy resulted in her creation of Leeza’s Place and Leeza’s Care Connection, offering free support services for family caregivers.

To purchase tickets or donate a silent auction item, visit www.celebritydoodles.com or call 760-323-2118.

Could the Palm Springs Aerial Tram be the 8th World Wonder?

Aboard the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, World’s Largest Rotating
Tramcar, you will experience a breathtaking journey up the sheer cliffs
of Chino Canyon.

Begin the 10 minute ride at the Valley Station –
elevation 2,643 ft. and end at the Mountain Station – elevation 8,516
ft. No matter what the season, whether you are enjoying spectacular
views or hiking in a pristine wilderness, a one-of-a-kind experience can
be had by all.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway constructed in rugged Chino Canyon on
the north edge of Palm Springs – about two hours by car from Los Angeles
and San Diego – did not just happen. It required foresight, planning,
financing and, most of all a vision. For years, it was the dream of a
young electrical engineer named Francis F. Crocker to “go up there where
it’s nice and cool”.
Crocker’s dream began in 1935 while he was on a trip to Banning,
California, with newspaper publisher Carl Barkow. Mopping his brow in
the heat of the day, Crocker gazed on longingly at the still snow-capped
peak of Mt. San Jacinto 10,834 feet high. At that moment, “Crocker’s
Folly,” as it was soon dubbed by one newspaper woman, was born – a
tramway up the sheer cliffs of Chino Canyon.

Now the tram could be voted
the 8th Wonder of the World!

Palm Springs Gets Ready for The Prop 8 Decision

The justices are expected to issue a ruling WEDNESDAY  on Proposition 8: California’s ban on same sex marriage.

Supporters  in the Palm Springs are planning a rally when the ruling comes down, and local businesses are gearing up for the possibility of a BIG WIN on Prop 8!

Both Gregory Goodman and Alan Kelly have a love of flowers, and each other.
They married in 2008 in the the brief window that same-sex marriage was legal.
“So we’re down there in Mexico in May and they decided to make it legal in the United States, in California. So we were like uh oh, we have to do a wedding here too,” said Gregory, owner of My Little Flower Shop.
“Well when our families found out that we got married in Mexico, they all went you can’t get married without us there,” said Alan.
“When the Supreme Court rules, it means many more people could be walking down the aisle, My Little Flower Shop already has bookings for July and August.
“We are looking for probably a 50 percent jump in business, we are actually putting in a warehouse very soon just to get ready for it,” said Gregory.
My Little flower shop is expanding to try to keep up with demand, and some hotels in California are booking up as well!

Random Haus Luxury Hotel / Condo in Palm Springs

Random Haus is a first for Palm Springs (and possibly, the nation) as it
is both a luxury hotel and a fractional condo ownership property aimed
squarely at the LGBT market.

The Palm Springs neighborhood of Warm Sands is usually considered the
main gay resort area in the desert, but there is another new cluster of gay
resorts on East San Lorenzo Road (off of Mesquite and Palm Canyon, just
south of downtown). And the newest addition to this gayborhood is the
luscious Random Haus.

Fractional sales of the Random Haus in
affordable one-twelfth interests are designed to be a more
cost-effective second home alternative for the LGBT market, bridging the
gap between those who spend more than a week in the desert, but not
enough time to justify the cost of operating a year-round home here.

Owners can purchase only the time they need in a flexible usage plan
based on their own schedules, and they receive a deeded interest in the
property inclusive of all HOA and maintenance fees. The concept seems to
already be proving popular: The Random Haus will begin closing escrow
on their first fractionals in a few weeks.
